I AM CODE IN A SPACE

Sound Art

I AM CODE IN A SPACE is a homage and loving nod to Alvin Lucier's sound piece called " I am sitting in a room" (1967) and can be seen as a reversed paraphrase of the original. The piece leads you through the process of an artificial intelligence developing its speaking voice, starting from a chaos of frequencies. Throughout the training the machine orders those frequencies until it reaches a voice similar to human speech. The learning algorithm thus represents the digital space itself, which gradually unfolds through the emergence of speech. A space that is woven into our everyday life yet remains obscure in its entirety.

I AM CODE IN A SPACE was displayed at the Reeperbahn Festival in 2020 as part of the Future Playground.
